Thomas Rhett shared an update on his injury after leaving a concert venue in a wheelchair.

Rhett shared a clip of the moment he injured his ankle while making a surprise appearance at Contemporary Christian singer-songwriter Forrest Frank’s show. The event took place over the weekend at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Rhett stumbled on his way to the stage, and although he managed to coninue the performance, he admitted he was in “pain.” His wife, Lauren Akins, pushed him in a wheelchair when the couple left the arena. Rhett said in the video he shared, “you know, every now and then, you just have to sing at a Forrest Frank concert and break your ankle in the process.”

Now that Rhett has gone for x-rays, however, he confirmed his ankle isn’t actually broken. He said in an update on his Instagram story on Wednesday (April 16):

“What’s up, y’all? I just wanted to hop on here and, first of all, say thank you for all the advice on ankle stuff, and for all your prayers. Much appreciated. …I’ve sprained my ankle a million times playing sports and stuff, but I’ve never felt it like that the other night. Just missed a step, man, you know? Welcome to 35, I guess is the new motto. ...Just got an x-ray, and thank the Lord nothing is broken. But I’ve heard a lot of people say that sometimes you’d rather it be broken rather than a bad sprain, so I think it’s just a pretty gnarly sprain. And yeah, I’m gonna start rehabbing like a daggum college athlete. But yeah, I just wanted to get on here and give y’all an update because there’s a lot of things scrolling around the internet, (and) just wanted to clarify some stuff. But yeah, just a really, really bad sprain, and I can’t put weight on it yet, but we’re getting there, baby. And I just wanted to say thank y’all for caring about me. It means a lot. See y’all very soon.”

Rhett is part of the star-studded lineup of the 2025 iHeartCountry Festival, which is slated to take place on Saturday, May 3.
