For #GivingTuesday, Washing State University student Danni Messina wanted to do something special after being inspired by a friend in the hospital.
She tweeted that she wanted to help raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. St. Jude treats children with cancers and other diseases and does not charge any patients or family members for treatment.
this time of year is about giving - this year, I am giving back to St. Jude & the families who are supported by their amazing services— dan (@danni_messina) November 25, 2017
every favorite : $.25
every retweet : $.50
go give. go st. Jude!!
Based on re-tweets and favorites, she was giving her own funds. But, little did she expect, Danni's good gesture meant for her family and friends, went viral! Her cause sent her prospective donation into $200,000 which as a student...she had no chance of paying. Too much for any college student to give, but her heart was in the right place.
Messina actually received backlash on Twitter for not being able to follow through on her promise. She then made a GoFundMe page to help her raise the remaining amount and made more than her goal!
